Because there’s no pre- and post-work assessment, this path is faster and cheaper to access, which is why it’s become the most popular option.
Path 2: The multi-measure stream (assessment required)
This is the higher-value path, and it’s for homeowners doing more than just the attic. By combining insulation with at least one other qualifying upgrade — air sealing, windows, doors, or heating equipment — you can access up to $7,700 in insulation rebates covering attic, walls, basement, and crawlspace.
The catch: this path requires a pre- and post-work energy assessment from a registered energy advisor, and a minimum of two qualifying measures. That assessment has an upfront cost and adds time to the process.
The mistake to avoid: The $7,700 figure and the “no assessment required” benefit belong to two different paths. You can’t get the full $7,700 without an assessment, and the no-assessment attic path tops out at $1,250. Any advertising that blends the two is misleading. Can it be combined with other programs?
Ontario homeowners may also be able to access financing through the Canada Greener Homes Loan (interest-free financing for eligible energy upgrades), and some sources indicate it can be stacked with the Home Renovation Savings Program.
